truly, marks functions cannot be underestimated. in terms of test in our study, marks are fair and real. that is the reason why we say "everyone is equal before marks. "
however, i think marks are the sole standard to judge the success or failure of students in exams. sometimes, marks more than ten or less than one or two in our exams comparing with others mean not everything. the success or failure in exams will be influenced by experience on the spot and the examinee's health etc. once in a while one cannot fail in exams. " success or failure is common sense for military. " i think everyone is familiar with the famous saying. don't you think such will be the case with our study? in exams, one cannot be " never-defeated general" . even though one will be very good in everyday study, he cannot succeed in every exam sometimes. we can get proof from the fact that the very best one we call "number one scholar" in the entrance exams for college and ordinary middle school and specialized secondary school over the years is not eminent above all others nor top student in every study.
as a matter of fact, "high marks" and "ability" are not unified. some time ago, a new phrase " high marks but poor competence" came into being. once i happened to meet such a teacher as this .it is said that the teacher just graduated from a far-famed key university. but his teaching result is much less than that of the one who just graduated from a not-well-renowned college. when lecturing, the teacher only repeated what the text-books says, which was very dull so the his students' interest in learning was not aroused. his teaching was short of unity of teaching and learning. at present there is a fact that we know a few brilliant and top college graduates are not qualified for their posts. the reason for it may be lack of the ability to combine knowledge learnt from books with pragmatics in their work. students of this kind will be successful in every exam but they will be able to use freely their knowledge in their posts. don't you think it waste training such persons for the country?
to sum up from the above, i can say marks are not absolutely authoritative for some. if we neglect training and developing the students' ability and competence and if we only seek for the high marks, we will be absolutely wrong. we should take an objective attitude towards the marks. neither should we neglect them nor should we overvalue them like a god.

In the American mind, change is seen as indisputably good, leading to development, improvement, progress. Many older, more traditional cultures consider change disruptive and destructive; they value stability, continuity, tradition, and ancient heritage - none of which are considered very important in the United States.
Time is of utmost importance to most Americans. It is something to be on, kept, filled, saved, used, spent, wasted, lost, gained, planned, given, even killed. Americans are more concerned with getting things accomplished on time than they are with developing interpersonal relations. Their lives seem controlled by the little machines they wear on their wrists, cutting their discussions off abruptly to make their next appointment on time. This philosophy has enabled Americans to be extremely productive, and productivity Is highly valued In their country.
Equality is so cherished in the U.S. that it is seen as having a religious basis. Americans believe that all people are created equal and that all should have an equal opportunity to succeed. This concept of equality is strange to seven-eighths of the world which views status and authority as desirable, even if they happen to be near the bottom of the social order. Since Americans like to treat foreigners "Just like anybody else", newcomers to the U.S. should realize that no insult or personal indignity is intended if they are treated in a less than-deferential manner by waiters in restaurants, clerks in stores and hotels, taxi drivers, and other service personnel.
Americans view themselves as highly individualistic in their thoughts and actions. They resist being thought of as representatives of any homogeneous group. When they do join groups, they believe they are special. Just a little different from other members of the same group. In the U.S. you will find people freely expressing a variety of opinions anywhere and anytime. Yet, in spite of this independence, almost all Americans end up voting for one of their two major political parties. Individuali leads to privacy, which Americans see as desirable. The word privacy does not exist in many non-Western languages. If It does, it is likely to have a negative connotation, suggesting loneliness or forced isolation. It is not uncommon for Americans to say, and almost to believe: "If I don't have half an hour a day to myself, I go stark-raving mad!"
Americans take credit only for what they accomplish as individuals. They get no credit for having been born into a rich family but pride themselves in having climbed the ladder of success, to whatever level, all by themselves. In an English-language dictionary, there are more than 100 composite words that have the word "self" as a prefix: self-aware. self-confident, self-conscious, self-contented, self-control, self-critici, self-deception, self-defeating, self-denial. The equivalent of these words cannot be found in most other languages. It is an indicator of how highly Americans regard the self-made man or woman.
Many other countries have developed subtle, sometimes highly ritualistic, ways of informing others of unpleasant information. Americans prefer the direct approach. They are likely to be completely honest in delivering their negative evaluations, and to consider, anything other than the most direct and open approach to be "dishonest" and "insincere". Anyone in the U.S. who uses an intermediary to deliver the message will also be considered "manipulative" and "untrustworthy". If you come from a country where saving face is important, be assured that Americans are not trying to make you lose face with their directness.

Thereason for it may be lack of the ability to combine knowledge learnt from bookswith pragmatics in their work. I have got quite different experience from other girls. Up to now, relying on their scientific power, the human have opened up too much and over developed nature, in order to fill up their growing appetites of wealth.
