英文留学申请书篇1

i live in pakistan-a country destroying itself with bombs, guns andgovernments' blabber to find justifications for what it is going through;acountry where a former president is murdered in public, where the nation'sconstitution and parliament are suspended at the same time, and where the voiceof a common man is unheard.

since the last few years, i had aspired to become a doctor.the idea of"scalpels," "opened chests" and "sutures" had always intrigued me.and then ithappened!the recent unprecedented events in my country wiped off the dust ofdisillusionment from my eyes;i lost my will to become a doctor.however, theturmoil in the country led me towards newspapers and news channels, and hencepolitics.

as i involved myself into politics,i realized that it isall-embracive-wielding its way over social and economic life-it is theomnipotent of pakistan.it can mobilize public opinion, gear up propagandamachinery, make or repeal laws and what not.backed up by public opinion, supportedby the majority of the legislators, armed with the means to keep the people in astate of ignorance, political power crosses the limits of dictatorialpowers.political power, like the most powerful intoxicant, makes the persons inpower to forget social ethics, political morality and obligations.

most of the learned youth in this country consider politics to be "a refugefor the scoundrels" and this derogatory remark may be true if we look at thedeceptive and degenerated type of politicians indulging in a dirty game.allthese political parties are votaries of democracy, but the way they conductthemselves inside their own parties is nothing but senselessauthoritarianism.therefore a very few students choose to pursue politics as aprofession, but what they don't realize is that if we don't take a stand thesystem can never be changed.thus,i want to study politics so i can come back tomy country and contribute what little i can do for my homeland and its people.ifi can inspire even a single person,it would be worth it.the world today isgrowing global.we are now not only to think of our own nation but as and when wethink of it,we have to keep the international perception in mind;consequently, ichose politics with international relations as one of my courses.

studying in uk will breed a sense of individuality and self reliance.iwould be able to interact with people from everywhere and get to know abouttheir culture.this would not only open new horizons for me,but would also clearsome preconceived notions one has about the other.i have always been an activeparticipant of debates.i have participated in 3 model un conferences out ofwhich i was awarded with the best delegate award in two. i was also one of thetwo students to be selected from my school to participate in the englishspeaking union '08.moreover, i've taken part in parliamentary style debatestoo.therefore i believe i can communicate effectively in public and languagewill not be a barrier in my education.furthermore, i have worked as an interneeat al-shifa eye hospital for a month in summers.here i learnt how to deal withpatients, use the auto ref, handle files and punctuality.we also campaigned to aremote area near murree where we helped the doctors in examining the patientsfree of cost.another experience which taught me a lot was when me and my fellowcolleagues volunteered to paint walls for the sos children's village.inaddition,i worked with sungi (ngo) where a group of 5 of us had to organize anevent to pay tribute to 1000 women for the nobel peace prize.

i enjoy literature, especially the works of shakespeare, tennesseewilliams, thomas hardy and andrew marvell.i'd be delighted to study in achallenging atmosphere where i can focus on my studies.i commit to my work andmy ability to think out of the box, keenness for politics and my perception ofthings,i understand, gives me an edge over others.i believe in myself, and ifprovided with an opportunity,i'd make the university proud.

applied program: wireless telecommunications

on august 27, 20_, at the central institute of the datang telecomtechnology and industry group based in beijing, a young woman, full of energyand self-confidence, was giving a presentation entitled “the design of theswitching numerical method of the radio resource management (rrm) strategy intd-scdma, and the testing of its simulated systems,” which received raptattention and high remarks from all the experts in computer andtelecommunications who attended the meeting. that woman was i. at present,td-scdma, w-cdma, and cdma 20__ are considered the main technological standardsin the third generation of the world’s technological development in mobiletelecommunications. and the design of a switching computation method for the rrmstrategy is a key element and technological crux for the td-scdma technology. inretrospection, i found that it was my great enthusiasm for mobiletelecommunications, and my persistent pursuit of accuracy and perfection thathave helped me win accolades from colleagues and experts.

in china, since the td-scdma uses a smart antenna, it makes a demand for afiner research on the computation method for the rrm strategy, in areas such aspc, dca, and hc. to me, a new starter in the company, it was a real challenge.since the research team was new, it lacked engineering data and practicalexperience, although the equipment of the lab was quite advanced. it was onlyafter much library research, thinking, and consultation with experts did i finda rrm computation method suitable for a smart antenna. because a smart antennahas its advantages of a more accurate ve locating and reduced searching areas, this computation method effectively lowers the complexity of the switchingprocess and its failure rate. during the time when i worked for the project, ioften stayed up several days in a roll to perfect a lab test. but i also derivedan enormous sense of satisfaction and fulfillment after overcoming obstacles, which more than compensated the pains and difficulties that i had to gothrough.

the rapid development of mobile telecommunication technology places a highdemand on professionals working in this field. to a certain extent, it has to bea labor of love. my keen interest in mobile telecommunications emanated from theconcept of “personal communication.” during my undergraduate years at thenorthwest university of industry, i spent much of my spare time browsing overprofessional publications and journals, to keep myself abreast of currentdevelopments. the concept of “personal communication” i encountered during thisprocess impressed me immensely. a system of “personal communication” is one thatallows the user to communicate at anytime, anyplace, to anyone, and in any way.it painted such a beautiful of picture of a future society that i became fullyconvinced that it is a subject well worth my lifelong pursuit. this was why ichose mobile telecommunications as my area of specialization in the graduateprogram. as a graduate student, i completed several research projectsindependently and successfully, including, for instance, “turbo code and theapplication of its coding concept.” in short frame conditions, the turbo code, with its improved application in engineering, seems to have a bright future inreal-time voice-data service (please see the attached article). after completingmy graduate degree, i entered datang group, a pioneer in china’s softwaredevelopment. here i did software design for the switch control template used atthe rnc equipment for the td-scdma system, and developed a switching computationmethod for the rrm strategy. i went through the entire process of softwaredesign for the switch control template for the rnc equipment, from topicanalysis to the project outline and then to actual program writing.

the present development of telecommunication technology indicates that thesmart antenna, software radio, and the transmission technology of subline 下行high-speed subdivided exchange data (下行高速分组交换数据传输技术) are key technologies fortoday’s mobile telecommunications. software radio, in particular, has attractedmuch public attention. the use of dsp and software to solve the problem ofwireless interfaces of diverse standards on a public hardware platform hasbecome a major issue pursued by many professionals in our field. i too hope tomake my own contribution to the technological development in this area. in thenext few years, the traditional concept of using chips to build wirelessequipment for mobile telecommunication will be seriously challenged. in recentyears, the technologies and standards of the third generation of mobiletelecommunication have been rapidly updated. software radio, i believe, will bethe future of our trade.

my desire to know more about computer engineering prompted me to rise abovemy present conditions. the united states, as technological superpower, havefirst-rate teaching faculty and research facilities in the world. itsideological openness and tolerance make a sharp contrast to chinese culture, which tends to value tradition rather than innovation. wirelesstelecommunication may be said to be one of the newest research areas, and it isnew concepts and new vision that give life to the industry. i believe that inthe fine research environment in the united states, i will be able to make“shortcuts” in attaining my academic and career goals.

i would like to apply for admission to the center for wirelesstelecommunications of virginia polytechnic institute and state university. asthe most prestigious research institute in wireless telecommunications, thecenter has a large number of famed scholars and professionals dedicated to thetheoretic research of wireless telecommunications. meanwhile, it maintains closecontact with the telecommunication industry, and in this way can test the theoryin practical experimentation, which in turn promotes theoretic research. it isan ideal place for me to fully develop my research potential.

i look forward to finding a teaching position at college level in chinaafter completing my graduate education, which will allow me to continue myresearch work in wireless telecommunications. i will impart my theoretic andpractical knowledge to my students, and hope that this will benefit china’swireless telecommunication industry, and society at large. i will make everyeffort to make the idea of “personal communication” a reality.

it has come to my attention that our nations, and nations like ours, havelong been plagued by a mysterious occurrence. an occurrence that is asperplexing as it is frustrating, and as baffling as it is widespread.

it has come to my attention that our nations, and nations like ours, havelong been plagued by a mysterious occurrence. an occurrence that is asperplexing as it is frustrating, and as baffling as it is widespread, a problemthat finds its origins at the very foot of our society. the problem of which ispeak is none other than “the orphan sock enigma,” the constant disappearance ofindividual socks during the laundering process. it is a problem familiar to allof us, and also one to which we have unwillingly admitted defeat.

i recently decided that this puzzle had remained unsolved for too long, andresolved to find an explanation. (in the grand tradition of science, i refusedto be discouraged by the basic irrelevance of my cause.) but the truth that iuncovered is more shocking and fantastic than i could have ever imagined. myprocedures, observations, and conclusions are as follows:

first, to verify that the problem exists, experimental and control loads oflaundry were completely processed . in thexperimental load , by the end of the process, some socks werelost. but in the control load , no socks were lost. thus theproblem was verified.

next the progress of a load of socks was carefully monitored. the resultsindicated that sock disappearance occurs during the period of time when the loadis in the dryer. following this conclusion, a literature search was done and avery significant fact was uncovered: there is no mention of socks disappearingin dryers before the invention of dryers in the 1920s. all evidence clearlypointed to the dryer. and it is there that i would find the answer to theenigma.

then, the actual experiment was done. in four separate trials, a number ofsocks (ten socks, or five pairs) were put through a normal drying cycle. thetypes of socks tested were selected by the highly accurate harvey-allmanprinciple hierarchy and zero alternative reduction dimension.

dear xx,

acclaimed as a prodigy, i entered into one of china’s ivy leagueuniversities at 14 and joined the country’s topmost scientific researchinstitution as a graduate student at 19. now an experienced engineer at 26, iwould like to scale still higher intellectual heights by undertaking advancedstudies that i hope would put me firmly on the cutting edge of scientificdevelopment.

i have demonstrated a keen mind since my early childhood. for years, iconsistently outperformed all of my classmates in such challenging subjects asmathematics, physics and chemistry. i was thus chosen to represent either myschool or my city in a variety of provincial and national contests of academicskills, in which i won numerous prizes. this impressive academic record put meon academic acceleration several times. that not only enabled me to finish myprimary and secondary education in eight instead of the usual twelve years butalso sent me at 14 to a privileged class for the gifted at the chineseuniversity of science and technology, a major cradle of the country’s scientificand technological talents.

after two years of basic training in the gifted class, i chose electricalengineering as my major and computer software programming as my minor, convincedthat expertise in these fields would stand me in good stead in an era of china’srapid economic expansion and technological modernization. as you can see fromthe transcripts of my undergraduate grades, i excelled in both of theseareas.

upon graduation in 1991, i won easy acceptance into the institute ofelectronics under the chinese academy of sciences and became a graduate studentat 19, when most chinese students would be just starting their universityeducation. at this institute, i narrowed my academic interest down and focusedit on the area of human and artificial intelligence, where the courses i tookwere deliberately concentrated. it seemed to me that scientific breakthroughswould next come in this area, which made it both challenging and promising. ilearned a whole lot about this area in the course if doing my thesis titled “theradio shunting system in railroad”, for which some experiments were conducted onthe basis of artificial intelligence.

my solid education paid off in my ability to take on a variety ofresponsibilities in china’s burgeoning software industry. after i obtained mymaster’s degree in engineering in 1994, i first took up a job with atelecommunication company, where i managed a trunk communication system thatresembled the cellular wireless system. a year later, i joined a softwarecompany to develop cmis program for china’s post and telecommunicationsministry. it was a large project, and i made crucial contribution to it byindependently developing and finalizing one subsystem, which proved to be asignificant success and won me profuse appreciation from users. after thecompletion of that project, i have been working for the japan brother ltd. inthe area of software development.

the relative smooth path of my career notwithstanding, i have not had achance to lead a major project, although i have always finished my part of everyproject immaculately. in spite of all my achievements, i feel that i have nottaken the full advantages of my intellectual capabilities. i now wish to pursuestill more advanced studies and thereby obtain an advanced degree so that i canopen more doors and shoulder greater responsibilities.

i believe i have acquired the necessary theoretical framework andsufficient practical experience for further studies. my ability to teach myselfand conduct independent research allows me to attain competence quickly in areasthat i may at first know very little about. i never work just to finish anassignment, but instead i always try conscientiously to improve my knowledge andexpertise through the work i do. in this fashion, i have become seasoned in suchfields as trunking system and cmis system . thisquality should help me as i seek to further upgrade my education, particularlyif i have ready access to the seasoned guidance of a strong faculty and theconvenience of state-of-the-art research facilities.

the university of idaho is well known for its excellence in the e. e field, complete with an accomplished faculty and modern research resources. theseshould set a good stage for me to exercise my keen mental power and diligence.if i am accepted, i am confident that i can make quick progress in the e. efield, especially in the areas of artificial intelligence, image processing, wireless communication, neural network and computer networking, which have manycharacteristics in common and share many important principles. due to the broadapplications of these technologies, i believe the progress we make in theseareas will help shape the future of the mankind. i would like t be at theforefront of such progress.

as i am broadly grounded in ee and computer science, you may find mequalified or more qualified for advanced studies in areas other than those ihave mentioned. if so, i would greatly appreciate it if you could let me knowany suggestions that you may have.

i wish to assure you that i have the necessary english language skills tocomplete advanced studies in your ph. d. program. i generally read or writeenglish without any difficulty. i have, over the years, not only read academicor professional materials in english avidly but also memorized the wholeenglish-chinese dictionary. there may be room for improvement in my oral englishand english listening comprehension. but i am sure my english proficiency issufficient for me to undertake advanced studies and research. besides, i believei can improve my oral english by leaps and bounds once i start to live in anenglish-speaking environment. all that i need to do is to set my mind free.

i plan to return to china after the completion of my ph. d. studies eitherto teach at one of the larger chinese universities or to lead a high-techcorporation.

yours sincerely,

"all i know about leadership i learned from . . ." what items could a person use to describe leadership qualities?

inspired by the student council advisors at my high school.

student council was a big part of my life in high school. i have participated in it since my frst year of high school. when i frst joined, i was quiet, na?ve, and unwilling to participate in many activities. i was scared to meet new people and afraid to apply myself. this all began to change. half way through my frst year in student council, one of the advisors can up to me and asked why i did not participate that much. i did not have an answer for her and did not know how to respond. after this, i began to think of an answer. i became frustrated and decided to change. i started to show up at events and had a great time. i realized i loved this and wanted to start leading these activities. in my sophomore, junior, and now my senior year of high school, i asserted myself and took on a strong leadership role in student council. i did not fgure out the answer to why i was so reserved until this year with the help of this question.

when i looked up leadership in the dictionary, it said that it was the capacity to lead and the act or instance of leading. these are two very broad defnitions of leadership. many people have different notions of what this word actually means. when i was challenged to use different items to describe what leadership actually is, i thought this was going to be a hard and obnoxious task. what could i learn from comparing leadership to a stuffed animal or a rubber chicken? but when i sat down to come up with a couple of answers, i realized that leadership could be compared to almost anything a person wants.

all i know about leadership i learned from a calculator. a calculator can add everything together to come up with the best answer. it can delet e what is unnecessary and only include what is important. it can solve any type of problem. these are all important equalities a leader has to have. a leader has to be able to add all of the ideas together to make the best possible plan. leaders have to know how to decipher the good and the bad out of an idea. they have to be versatile and know how to deal with different types of issues.

all i know about leadership i learned from a ball. a ball is able to bounce back up after it is dropped. it is round and has no creases. a ball can be thrown back and forth to different people. all of these qualities are also leadership qualities. a leader has to be ready for every situation that is thrown at him or her. he or she has to be able to bounce back from any setbacks and never dwell on the past. leaders have to exhibit many qualities and never be closed-minded about a situation. a leader must be able to delegate when he or she cannot get the work done. they have to trust everyone they lead to be able to "catch the ball" and keep a project rolling.

this activity made me realize that being a leader is so much more than just having authority and having the ability to take control of a situation. a leader has to be trusting of all the people he or she leads and, leaders must be able to combine ideas into one encompassing idea. they cannot sit in the background and watch events happen; they have to jump in and be involved. they should not delegate all their responsibilities away.

leadership is more than what the dictionary says it is.

i learned through all of this that i have many of these qualities.

i have the ability to solve problems, lead through adversity, and be versatile. from answering this question, i realized that i could lead effectively, even if my leadership style is different from other individuals. when i joined student council in my frst year of high school, i did not have these qualities because i was never put into a situation where i had to lead. i was too reserved to try. when i tried, i learned that i could succeed in this. i did not realize until i answered this question about leadership. i was never able to see that being a leader is not just about taking control of a group and telling everyone what to do.">出国留学英文自我介绍范文
