Thinkingisnotonlyaboosterforlearning,butalsoaspicetoenrichlifeandanincubatorforwisdom.ThankstothehabitofreadingbookssinceIwasachild,literarymasterpieces,celebritybiographies,encyclopedicknowledge,newsessays...areoftencapturedbytheeyesthatIliketoexplore,stuffedintothegrindingwheelofthinking,andfromtimetotimewillproduceshortandlongLearned.

Priortoapplyingtostudyillustration,IhaveworkedinjobroleswhereIhavelearntvaluableskills.Themajorityofmyexperiencebeingwithintheretailindustry.Ihavelearntthevaluesofteamwork,meetingdeadlines,beingproactiveandworkingtoonesowniniative.Workingforhighfashionretailershasalsoallowedmetokeepmycreativeedge.Ihavepersonallymadedisplays,dressedwindowsandmannequins,remerchandisedwalls,evendowntoplacingfixturesrequiresindustryknowledgeandcreativeness.ItwasatthispointIrealisedIwouldreallyenjoyworkingwithinamorecreativeindustry.
InmyfreetimeIenjoyplayingguitar,writingmusic,discoveringnewbands,attendinggigs,reading,photography,watchingfilmsandplayingchess.Abigdesireofmineistotravel,Ibelieveitisanimportantpartoflife.IknowtheplacesIhavevisitedsofarhaveleftanimpressiononme,Iamalwayskeentodiscoverandexplore.Withoutvisitingnewplacesandmeetingdifferentpeople,Iwouldnothaveasmuchawarenessoftheworld,Iviewthisasanessentialpartofdesign.IalsoconsiderdesigntobeahobbywhichIampassionateaboutandenjoythoroughly.ItseemsnaturalformetotakethistothenextlevelasIseedesignbeingmorethanjustahobby.
Studyingatdegreelevelwillgivemetheopportunitytorespondtobriefs,ratherthanself-initiatingmywork.ThoughmoreimportantlyIwillalsobegiventheopportunitytoworkwithotherdesigners,beitmytutorsorfellowstudents.Workinginacreativeatmosphereamongstotherswhoareabletogivecritiqueandadvice,willbethemostvaluableareatome.Iwouldalsoliketouseuniversityasastepping-stonetogainwork,throughexhibitions,opportunitieswithintheuniversityandthroughindustrylinks.
SomeofmyfavouriteartistswouldincludeDavidShrigleyforhisbazaarhumour,BanksyforhissatireanddirectnessandFrankSheppardFaireyforhis‘phenomenology’experiment.
IllustrationhasrecentlybecomeabitofanobsessiontomeandIcan’trememberadaywhenIwasn’tdrawingordoodlinganidea.There’ssomethingsatisfyingaboutspendinghoursrenderinganidea,onlytorealisesomethingisslightlyoutofplaceanddecidingtospendanightinperfectingit.

Sincethelastfewyears,Ihadaspiredtobecomeadoctor.Theideaof"scalpels,""openedchests"and"sutures"hadalwaysintriguedme.Andthenithappened!Therecentunprecedentedeventsinmycountrywipedoffthedustofdisillusionmentfrommyeyes;Ilostmywilltobecomeadoctor.However,theturmoilinthecountryledmetowardsnewspapersandnewschannels,andhencePolitics.
AsIinvolvedmyselfintopolitics,Irealizedthatitisall-embracive-wieldingitswayoversocialandeconomiclife-itistheomnipotentofPakistan.Itcanmobilizepublicopinion,gearuppropagandamachinery,makeorrepeallawsandwhatnot.Backedupbypublicopinion,supportedbythemajorityofthelegislators,armedwiththemeanstokeepthepeopleinastateofignorance,politicalpowercrossesthelimitsofdictatorialpowers.Politicalpower,likethemostpowerfulintoxicant,makesthepersonsinpowertoforgetsocialethics,politicalmoralityandobligations.
MostofthelearnedyouthinthiscountryconsiderPoliticstobe"arefugeforthescoundrels"andthisderogatoryremarkmaybetrueifwelookatthedeceptiveanddegeneratedtypeofpoliticiansindulginginadirtygame.Allthesepoliticalpartiesarevotariesofdemocracy,butthewaytheyconductthemselvesinsidetheirownpartiesisnothingbutsenselessauthoritarianism.ThereforeaveryfewstudentschoosetopursuePoliticsasaprofession,butwhattheydon'trealizeisthatifwedon'ttakeastandthesystemcanneverbechanged.Thus,IwanttostudyPoliticssoIcancomebacktomycountryandcontributewhatlittleIcandoformyhomelandanditspeople.IfIcaninspireevenasingleperson,itwouldbeworthit.Theworldtodayisgrowingglobal.Wearenownotonlytothinkofourownnationbutasandwhenwethinkofit,wehavetokeeptheinternationalperceptioninmind;consequently,IchosePoliticswithInternationalRelationsasoneofmycourses.
StudyinginUKwillbreedasenseofindividualityandselfreliance.Iwouldbeabletointeractwithpeoplefromeverywhereandgettoknowabouttheirculture.Thiswouldnotonlyopennewhorizonsforme,butwouldalsoclearsomepreconceivednotionsonehasabouttheother.Ihavealwaysbeenanactiveparticipantofdebates.Ihaveparticipatedin3ModelUNconferencesoutofwhichIwasawardedwiththeBestDelegateawardintwo.IwasalsooneofthetwostudentstobeselectedfrommyschooltoparticipateintheEnglishSpeakingUnion'08.Moreover,I'vetakenpartinParliamentarystyledebatestoo.ThereforeIbelieveIcancommunicateeffectivelyinpublicandlanguagewillnotbeabarrierinmyeducation.Furthermore,IhaveworkedasaninterneeatAl-ShifaEyeHospitalforamonthinsummers.HereIlearnthowtodealwithpatients,usetheAutoRef,handlefilesandpunctuality.WealsocampaignedtoaremoteareanearMurreewherewehelpedthedoctorsinexaminingthepatientsfreeofcost.AnotherexperiencewhichtaughtmealotwaswhenmeandmyfellowcolleaguesvolunteeredtopaintwallsfortheSOSChildren'sVillage.Inaddition,IworkedwithSUNGI(NGO)whereagroupof5ofushadtoorganizeaneventtopaytributeto1000WomenfortheNobelPeacePrize.
IenjoyLiterature,especiallytheworksofShakespeare,TennesseeWilliams,ThomasHardyandAndrewMarvell.I'dbedelightedtostudyinachallengingatmospherewhereIcanfocusonmystudies.Icommittomyworkandmyabilitytothinkoutofthebox,keennessforPoliticsandmyperceptionofthings,Iunderstand,givesmeanedgeoverothers.Ibelieveinmyself,andifprovidedwithanopportunity,I'dmaketheuniversityproud.
