They were very surprised when they saw that our English were excellent and we knew a lot about the Great Wall's history. They thanked us a lot and we really had a good time. 1.日记格式
英语日记和中文日记格式大抵相同，通常由两个部分组成，即书端和正文。日记的第一行要写明日期，星期和当时的天气状况。日期顶格写，中间是星期，天气写在右上角。如果是游记的话也可以写上地点。
2.日记文体
英语日记的写作文体不限，但对小学生来说，多以叙事为主。小学生日记的内容一般取材于生活，可长可短，实在无话可说，一两句也可以。家长应鼓励孩子在日记里多运用课堂上学过的词汇。
3.日记时态
写日记的时间多在下午或晚上，甚至是第二天，所叙述的事情都是已经发生的，故多用一般过去时。但如果是描述景色，谈论某事或是展望未来，也可以用一般现在时或一般将来时。

英语日记正文通常用一般过去时，一般过去时是指在过去发生并且在过去结束的情况下，句子中所用到的时态。 日记中所写的内容，通常是当天所发生的事情，所以要用一般过去时来表示。
通常，一般过去时中，动词要用其过去式形式。而动词变为其过去式形式，通常在动词后加ed，即V-ed即可，比如look的过去式是looked。
不过，并非所有动词都是直接加ed，部分以e结尾的动词变过去式，在其后直接加d。以辅音字母+y结尾的词，其动词变过去式变y为i加ed。还有重读闭音节的单词，其过去式形式是双写末尾字母再加ed。还有一些动词的过去式不规则，需要自己日常积累。
例如：
stop的过去式是stopped。
study的过去式是studied。
change的过去式是changed。
